Thoughts from the Artist:

My artistic journey spans several decades during which I have been an interior designer and painter. It is my commitment to painting, however, which has been the centerpiece of my life as an artist. I take pride in the diverse body of work that Iʼve created, including both the figurative and the abstract in formats such as mixed media, still life, and landscape. I often find inspiration in the beauty of the natural world whether at home or on my travels. During the last few years, I visited Mexico and found myself immersed in the colorful and vibrant atmosphere of the country. This, in turn, led me to experiment with collage and more vivid color palates in my painting. Inspiration from fellow artists has also had an impact upon my work and has been noted by judges at various art exhibitions and juried shows. Regarding one of my award winning abstract paintings, one reviewer stated, “... in Lynda Schwartzʼ “Untitled,” it is de Kooning, among others, whose influence is felt. I admire the smallish, densely layered abstraction which has thick swatches of oil paint applied vertically and horizontally on a heavily worked surface.” Though words donʼt come easily to me, it is color that gives voice to my imagination and informs my personal process. Relying on intuition, my brush upon the canvas evokes inchoate feelings and thoughts which are then represented in the final piece. In this way, my paintings are a means of communication and an act of discovery, a personal transaction that elicits a satisfying response for myself and, hopefully, for the viewer as well.
